Music counts for one of the necessary art credits at Franklin, but it is more than just an in school class. Franklin music classes also double as a club/organization that participates in two concerts every year, number fundraisers, music festivals, competitions, and out of school engagements, such as: weddings, anniversaries, retirement parties, and much more. Music is a great way to bring about school spirit and ensure balance of work and your artistic creative expression. THEATER Our theater program is expanding each year. The program has been recognized by the renown New Orleans Theater Association - who have helped underwrite numerous shows as well as an incredible upgrades to our auditorium. Other organizations such as the Keller Foundation, RosaMary Foundation, Selly, Zemurray and other private donors around the cities have all shown their enthusiasm and support of our talented theater department. VISUAL ARTS The Visual Arts Department offers a wide variety of courses in multiple disciplines from painting, photography, sculpture, printmaking, digital design and other media arts. Our student's artwork has been recognized by numerous organizations including the Columbia Scholastic Press Association, the Rau for Art Foundation, Jazz & Heritage Foundation, and the Selley Foundation amongst several others. Our outstanding Fine Arts faculty have participated in international and local exhibitions as well as published in national art journals. NOCCA PARTNERSHIP Benjamin Franklin High School has approximately forty students who take classes at the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts . Most of these students attend NOCCA’s half-day program and graduate from both Benjamin Franklin High School and NOCCA. How does it work? Our schedule lends itself to students spending mornings at Ben Franklin and afternoons at NOCCA. Students take four classes each semester at Ben Franklin, two classes each of the rotation days, Day A and Day B. Because there are additional classes that must be completed in order to graduate from Ben Franklin, students work with their counselor to arrange to take those additional classes at a local college or university. Does attending NOCCA have a negative effect on the students’ GPAs or their college aspirations? Absolutely not. Our most successful NOCCA students (most successful in their academics and in their arts discipline) attend some of the most highly selective colleges and universities in the country. Do BFHS’s NOCCA students stay involved in what is going on at Ben Franklin? Some NOCCA students come back to Ben Franklin after their NOCCA classes because they need tutoring or want to participate in some type of extracurricular activity. Others do not return to BFHS after NOCCA. It depends on the student. How does it work? Our schedule lends itself to students spending mornings at Ben Franklin and afternoons at NOCCA. Our program is based on the beliefs that: a) the college choice is a process which requires well-honed research and decision-making skills, and b) the college choice should be geared to the individual, and student and college should be appropriately matched. To accomplish these goals, we offer a range of large and small group, as well as individual meetings to help students and their families make informed, well-reasoned college choices, and we encourage students and parents to take advantage of these opportunities. 99% College/University attendance 55% attend a Private Institution 45% attend a Public Institution 54% outside of Louisiana Class of 2025 ACT Mean Composite: 28.1 7 perfect scores 31% scored a 30 or higher 99% of graduates are eligible for TOPS Top in LA for ACT scores "The BFHS College and Academic Counseling Office has been invaluable in supporting our son's college goals.
